In the USA, 80 % of people who have died from/with COVID-19 have been more than 65 years old and multi-morbid and 95 % have been more than 50 years old. The mortality rate globally for COVID-19 is lower than 0.2 %, thus there are fewer than 1 in 500 who die with COVID-19. For people below the age of 70, fewer than 1 in 3000 dies, and the rate drops further for each lower age group. In Sweden in 2020, fewer people died in relation to the population than in most years during the 2000s. Of those who get COVID-19 infection, 98 % are fully recovered within 3 months.
There is no strong evidence that COVID-19 could cause long-term damage to the body. COVID-19 infection is – by all accounts – no more dangerous for children than the flu. In the first half of 2020, no child died with COVID-19 as the underlying cause of death, but there were two children who died of common influenza.
